There were many poetic verses written in praise of him, which can be found in Hilya al-Bashar fi Tarikh al-Qarn al-Thalith Ashar by Shaykh Abd al-Razzaq al-Baytar. Shaykh al-Midani was not prolific in his writings, but he was certainly amongst the best in the works he did as an author. He was known for his vast knowledge and his eagerness to apply it. He penned this commentary on the famous Mukhtasar of al-Quduri titled al-Lubab. Shaykh Abdul Ghani Al-Ghunaymi Al-Midani was a 10th century Hanafi jurist (Faqih), a legal theorist (Usuli) and a traditionalist (muhaddith) and grammarian (nahwi) from Damascus. This book is a Sharh of most famous book of Islamic Jurisprudence (according to Hanafi Madhab), which is al-Lubab fi Sharh al-Kitab 'ala al-Mukhtasar al-Mushtahir bi-Ism 'al-Kitab' alladhi sannafahu Abu al-Husayn Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Quduri al-Baghdadi al-Hanafi. He died on 15th Rajab 428 AH in Baghdad, and was buried in his home, but was later transported and buried beside Abu Bakr al-Khawarizmi, another Hanafi jurist. His mention recurs in the well-known Hanafi books al-Hidayah and al-Khulasah. The leadership of the Hanafis in `Iraq came to rest with him, and his renown rose. Upto this day, the book enjoys a wide acclaim, still forming a part of the teaching curriculum in many traditional madaris, and with prominent and accomplished contemporary scholars continuing to recommend and approve it as a teaching text.ДЄl-Quduri was one of the ashab al-tarjih (jurists who weighed and analyzed the strengths of differing verdicts in the madhhab). Along with Muhammad ibn al-Hasan's Al-Jami' al-Saghir, it formed the nucleus of al-Marghinani's widely-renowned Al-Hidaya. The book is recognized and respected as a reliable book of the Hanafi school, and has had various commentaries written on it.
